The Toronto Blue Jays made it to a World Series a year ago and are looking to add more talent in the near future.
According to reports, the Blue Jays are reportedly keeping an eye on a pitching prospect with ties to the New York Yankees organization.
Reporter Bob Elliott recently noted that Toronto has been evaluating Georgia high school right-hander Joseph Contreras, the son of former big-league pitcher Joss Contreras.
“Blue Jays scouts have been evaluating Georgia HSer RHP Joseph Contreras, son of former big leaguer José Contreras (78-67., 4.57 ERA in 11-year career). Joseph will pitch for Brasil as youngest player in WBC.”
Jose spent part of his 11-year MLB career in the Bronx. His son, one of the better high school arms in the country, got Aaron Judge out on Friday night.
His son already has heavy interest from scouts as he works his way through the amateur ranks. He’s committed to Vanderbilt and has a fastball in the upper 90s. Perfect Game ranks him as the No. 1 overall RHP in America and the No. 19 player in the class.
Getting players to walk away from a commitment from Vanderbilt isn’t always easy, but if the youngster goes in the first-round, his signing bonus should be more than enough to pull him away from the college ranks.
