Pitching ruled the day as New York high school softball's top players made their mark in the NYSPHSAA state championship semifinals and finals.
There were also some standout batting lines as well, and a few of the weekend's top pitchers were also the top hitters.
Here's a quick look at the top individual performance across the six divisions' final fours.
Top performers from 2025 NYSPHSAA softball semifinals and finals:
Alyssa Brunner, Lancaster: Turned in one of the weekend's top two-way weekends to power Lancaster to a Class AAA championship. Against both Corning-Painted Post and Massapequa, Brunner allowed six hits and two earned runs in complete game victories, and she was one of the Legends' best hitters too going 4-7 with four doubles, a run scored, and a run driven in.
Ava Budzinski, Williamsville South: Dominated for the Class A runner-up with one earned run allowed in two complete games, plus a 2-5 batting line.
Brennah DeWald, Lancaster: Was unstoppable at the plate for the Class AAA winner, batting 5-7 with four RBI, a double, a walk, and two runs scored.
Ava Farina, Orchard Park: Pitched the Quakers to a Class AA crown, holding Burnt Hills-Balston Lake and Horseheads to a combined five hits and one run in 13.2 innings.

Ellie Freeth, Hamilton: Spearheaded Hamilton's Class D championship with a no-hitter in the semifinals and explosive hitting in both games. Freeth hit 4-7 with a home run, four RBI, and a walk.

Skylar Groom, Chatham: Held foes to three hits in two complete game victories with 11 K's apiece en-route to Chatham's Class B state title, including a shutout in the finals against Haverling. Groom also led off the scoring against Haverling with a single, followed by the game's first run.

Emily Lopez, Miller Place: Hit 3-6 with two RBI, a double, two walks, and two runs scored for the Class A champs.
Ashlyn Wright, Bloomfield: Shredded Deposit-Hancock and Tuckahoe on both sides of the ball for a Class C championship. Wright allowed five hits and a walk to a whopping 20 strikeouts in her pair of complete game shutouts, and she was one of the weekend's top hitters too, going 5-8 with six RBI and two doubles.

Ava Zichinelli, Miller Place: Led the Panthers to a Class A title with complete game shutouts of Maine-Endwell and Williamsville South. In 14 innings she notched 17 K's and allowed just four hits and three walks. Zichinelli also hit 2-8 with a double and an RBI.
