Top performers from Indiana high school softball state championship games

This past weekend in Indiana, four state softball championships were awarded.

It was a part of the state softball championships conducted by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, with all four games held at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

In the Class 1A title game, North Newton won its first title in any sport with a 2-0 win against Clay City. Tecumseh claimed its sixth state championship, and first in 2A, by downing Andrean, 2-0.

Then in Class 3A, Indianapolis Cathedral held off Hanover Central, 5-4, to win state for the first time in program history. It took nine innings to decide a Class 4A champion, but it was Crown Point which came out on top, defeating Center Grove, 2-0.

Here are several of the top standouts who led their respective teams to IHSAA softball titles:

Top performers from 2025 IHSAA softball championship games

Sydney Rainford, North Newton: Rainford was the winning pitcher, throwing a two-hit shutout and striking out 17 batters in raising her record to 24-1 after North Newton’s Class 1A championship victory. Rainford also had a base hit and an RBI at the plate.

Macy Busboom, North Newton: Busboom was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Paige Culbreth, North Newton: Culbreth was 2-for-3 for the victorious Class 1A state champs.

Audrey Seiler, Tecumseh: Seiler gave up only one hit in throwing a shutout and struck out 13 batters in Tecumseh’s Class 2A title triumph. She also had a base hit on offense.

Katelyn Marx, Tecumseh: Marx was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Melanie Pfieffer, Tecumseh: Pfieffer had a base hit and an RBI.

Anna Moore, Indianapolis Cathedral: Moore went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in Cathedral’s Class 3A title-game win.

Kelsey Beres, Indianapolis Cathedral: Beres was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Curstyn Hansbrough, Indianapolis Cathedral: Hansbrough was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Paige Liezert, Crown Point: Liezert had a pitching performance for the ages, going all nine innings in the Class 4A title game and giving up no runs on four hits. She also struck out 16 batters.

Lulu Johnston, Crown Point: Johnston had half of Crown Point’s four hits, going 2-for-4 while driving in a run.

Nevaeh Rangel, Crown Point: Rangel picked up the other RBI for the Class 4A victors.
