Earlier this month, the Illinois High School Association’s “State Series” baseball championship games were conducted.
In Class 4A, Libertyville took home its first state championship after a 4-1 win against McHenry. Then in Class 3A, Burbank (St. Laurence) bested Lisle (Benet Academy), 8-5, to take home the trophy.
The Class 2A state champion was Springfield (Sacred Heart-Griffin), which edged Teutopolis, 5-4. In another down-to-the-wire final, Ottawa (Marquette) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past Glen Carbon (Father McGivney), 6-5, for the Class 1A title.
Here are several of the top standouts who led their respective teams to IHSA baseball titles:
Top performers from 2025 IHSA baseball championship games
Josh Holst, Libertyville: Holst was the winning pitcher as he threw a two-hitter, allowing one earned run and striking out eight. He also had a hit and drove in three runs.
Cole Lockwood, Libertyville: The Wildcats’ leadoff batter went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and two runs scored.
Carson Holmes, Libertyville: Holmes was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Daniel Coyle, St. Laurence: Coyle was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored in the Class 3A title-game win. He was also the winning pitcher, going the final three innings in relief and allowing one run on three hits, striking out four.
Connor Marino, St. Laurence: Marino, the Vikings’ lead-off batter, was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Ben Geary, St. Laurence: Geary went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored for the Vikings.
Thomas Lauterbach, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Lauterbach walked off the Class 2A title game with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. He went 2-for-3.
Andy Antonacci, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Antonacci was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored for the Cyclones.
Drew Ward, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Ward scored a run and was also the winning pitcher in relief, going 2 1/3 innings and allowing a run on three hits while striking out three.
Sam Mitre, Marquette: Mitre went 3-for-4 and ended the Class 1A championship game for the Crusaders with an RBI walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Griffin Dobberstein, Marquette: Dobberstein was 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored.
Alec Novotney, Marquette: Novotney was 2-for-4 with a run scored and was also the winning pitcher in relief, going three innings and giving up one run on four hits, striking out three.
