This week’s top comics to buy for November 5 feels fairly traditional. There’s two DC Comics titles, one of the Energon Universe action figure books, and new smalltown drama from Jeff Lemire, all of which are no strangers to this space. And then there’s also White House Robot Romance, one of the oddest (semi) monthly comics I’ve read in a good while (complimentary).
All told, though, this was one of those good weeks were my list of recommendations started at 10 and then I had winnow it down. That means I’m happy, and you (I hope) are likely to find more than a few books you like as well. You can find my top five below, along with the usual set of release lists … enjoy!
Top Comics to Buy for November 5, 2025
Absolute Green Lantern #8

Who is Jo Mullein? The wielder of the green power reveals her deepest secrets… as her ex-wife decides whether to help her or turn her in.
Why It’s Cool: I’ve enjoyed Absolute Green Lantern from the start, finding it to be one of the more enigmatic and outside-the-box titles in the new Absolute Universe line. This issue — which is the best chapter yet — clarifies some of the mysteries in this book, while leaving the larger issues (widely) unsolved. This book is maybe making the best use of its source mythos, and, as with the best of the Absolute Universe titles, letting its idiosyncratic artwork take lead. This issue in particular is also wonderfully-character driven. It’s great stuff.

G.I. Joe #13

Why It’s Cool: G.I. Joe has done a great job building up a new status quo filled with its huge cast of classic characters since the book started as a set of miniseries. There’s also been a great sense of slow-building momentum in this comic, whether it be with Duke constructing and honing his team, or the simmering rivalry between Destro and Cobra Commander. This issue — which starts a bi-weekly Dreadnok War story arc — reaches back to grab plot points from the Cobra Commander mini-series, and I really appreciate that commitment to long-form storytelling. Also! Main series artist Tom Reilly is back too!

Minor Arcana #11

Will they both find themselves inching closer to the truth — or further from it than ever before?
Why It’s Cool: Very few creators have a handle on the types of stories they tell as well as Jeff Lemire has a handle on smalltown forlorn family dramas, which is a severely uncommon sort of story to find in monthly comics. Minor Arcana put a slightly different spin on the stories Lemire has told in books like Royal City and Essex County, introducing magic to the world as well. And now 11 issues into its run, Minor Arcana continues to use its smalltown, family, and magic elements so well. This book just keeps getting better too, making it an easy choice for the Top Comics to Buy for November 5.

Poison Ivy #38

Time to die! Ivy’s had enough of Janet’s lies. She’s dragging the mewling, near-dead Janet-from-HR into the woods and giving her what she deserves once and for all. If there’s anything left for either of them to say to each other… now would be the time.
Why It’s Cool: I’ve written this so many times, but this is one of the most unlikely long runs in comics, and it’s a testament to how good it’s been throughout that it’s now approaching 40 issues. This week’s really put a couple of the series’ characters through the ringer, which always makes for great drama, and it also has a nice escalating sense of pacing to it, a masterclass in making interesting single issues this deep into a run.

White House Robot Romance #2

Chef-9 and Service-1 are safely hidden from the White House Security team — for now. But Danny has discovered that there’s a new threat on the robot lovers’ heels: The Canadian Liberation Front, who will stop at nothing to protect their country.
Why It’s Cool: It’s really hard to put this comic in a box, and regular readers of this space by now know that’s one of my favorite compliments to give a monthly book. This one could maybe be processed as a near-future, espionage comic, one that takes its ideas from the Trump Era strain on the America-Canada relationship. But also, there’s a pair of robots who are in love with each other and trying to process what that means in a very existential way. It’s a lot, but also, it just works, making this one of my favorite DSTLRY comics yet.
