Tony Khan willing to bring back "undefeated" star to AEW after more than 4 years

Tony Khan has once more mentioned how he'd love to bring an undefeated icon back to AEW for another match. Should this become a reality, this would be their first match in more than four years.

NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal competed for the company back in March 2021 as he teamed up with Jade Cargill to take on Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet. During a point in the match, Rhodes and Shaq came crashing through a table. This isolated Cargill and Red Velvet in the ring, and the former was able to score the win for her side after hitting her finisher.

While speaking to Sportico, Tony Khan looked back at the best non-wrestlers who have competed in AEW. Khan named Shaq as the best one he's had. He mentioned how he has been undefeated since, and he would love to see him in another match for them.

“For me, the best person we had — and I would love for him to come back anytime — would be Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq’s 1–0, but then he’s been away from AEW. He disappeared out of the ambulance in 2021, and we haven’t seen him since. So I would love to get Shaq back in the ring. He’s got to be one of the all-time greatest stars ever in basketball, and he’s undefeated in AEW.” [H/T RSN]

Khan has previously discussed how, similar to Big Boom AJ's current efforts, the basketball icon had a significant impact on the promotion.

Shaquille O'Neal wanted a match with Paul Wight in AEW

Even during his time in WWE, Shaq had an interesting feud with the Big Show, given how they were both giants who towered over everyone.

Back in 2023, Shaq had celebrity jeweler Diamond Sheik at his house as he gave him a custom-made belt made of diamonds. They called this the Billion Dollar Championship. The legend joked about putting this on the line against someone and challenged Paul Wight to a tag team contest. He proposed that he and Sheik will face him and anyone of his choice.

"Cody, whoever else wants it, Big Show," O'Neal said. "As a matter of fact, oh no, he's in LA. Tell you what, Diamond Sheik and Shaq vs Big Show and whoever else you want. Let's go, AEW."

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! Also, a gift from my brother @SHAQ we are going to call this the BILLION DOLLAR BELT 🏆💎✨ Thank you big bro @djdiesel also watch out @PaulWight we coming for you @AEW @AEWonTV . . . #breakingnews #challenge #shaq #wrestling #aew #paulwight #Championship #new

This match did not end up becoming a reality, but it still could be. Despite not being in the best condition, Paul Wight has yet to officially retire from the ring. He could compete in one of his final matches against Shaq and finally settle this feud.
