Tommy Dorfman's "Overwhelmed" by Support After Coming Out
Tommy Dorfman is saying goodbye to a life chapter.
The 13 Reasons Why star filed for divorce from her wife Elise Williams after nearly two years or marriage on May 16 in New York City, per court documents obtained by E! News.
E! News reached out to reps for Tommy and Elise for comment but has not heard back.
Tommy, 33, met Elise on Hinge in 2021, the same year the actress came out as a transgender woman and split from her husband of five years Peter Zurkuhlen. She announced their engagement in August 2022, during an appearance on Rachel Bilson's Broad Ideas podcast where she kept her fiancée’s identity a secret at the time and simply revealed her new love interest was "a gay girl."
Two years later, in a 2024 essay for Vogue, Tommy delved deeper into their love story, sharing that the pair had gotten engaged after just a couple months of dating.
"The first few months of our relationship set the tone for how we would eventually get married," Tommy wrote in the essay. "We got engaged two months into dating."
She also revealed that they secretly eloped at the end of 2023, writing in a since-deleted Instagram post, "I married my best friend and didn’t tell anyone except @hunterabrams who came and photographed us towards the end of last year."

For Tommy, their relationship made her feel valued in a crucial way, with her telling Vogue that she "fell in love with someone who doesn't fetishize" her.
Tommy also shared her pride in celebrating their love story.
"We do see the benefit of celebrating our love with the world," she said, "and, frankly, the importance of people seeing trans and queer love en vogue."
Despite their fast-paced romance, a December 2024 Instagram post from Tommy hinted at their split just seven months after the Vogue article was published.
In the caption, which accompanied a series of photos that Elise was noticeably absent from, Tommy wrote, "heartbreak feels good in a place like this."
