The woes of the Los Angeles Chargers continue to pile on, and they’re getting roasted for it on national television.
During a second-half collapse in Sunday’s 24-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Justin Herbert threw his first interception of the game and was immediately criticized by Tom Brady.
On third-and-five early in the fourth quarter, Herbert dropped back to pass and fired away to Marquez Valdes-Scantling and was instead intercepted in the endzone by C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
During the replay, Brady ripped Herbert on live television by saying, “Poor awareness, poor decision. Throws him a meatball sub.”
His interception during the game was his fourth pick of the season, in what’s already been an exhausting start to the year. The Chargers are now 0-3 with a tough schedule ahead as they will face the Seahawks, Broncos, Chiefs, Rams, Texans, and Ravens in their next six games.
Herbert completed 20 of 34 passes for 226 yards with one touchdown, while taking two sacks and the lone interception on Sunday.
Primarily, issues in the red zone were the main culprit for Los Angeles, as they were a yard away from scoring in the third quarter, but two false start penalties pushed them back, leading to a field goal.
Coming into Sunday’s game, Los Angeles was ranked as one of the worst scoring offenses in the NFL, averaging just 14 points a game. That was not helped much on Sunday against a Bills defense that saw the Lions go up and down the field on.
Their defense, which has been subpar for most of the season, stepped it up against the Bills, holding Allen to just 204 yards in the air while completing just 16 of 26 passes.
