Tom Brady Shares the Touching Way 3 Kids Always Feel Close to His Heart

Tom Brady's family game plan will have you seeing double.

Nearly two years after the former NFL quarterback's beloved dog Lua died, he revealed that his new pup Junie is a clone of his former pet thanks to the help of biotech company Colossal Biosciences.

"I love my animals," Tom shared in a Nov. 4 press release obtained by People. "They mean the world to me and my family. A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family's elderly dog before she passed."

The company—which also announced its acquisition of biotech company ViaGen Pets and Equine—was able to give the 48-year-old's family, as Tom put it, "A second chance with a clone of our beloved dog."

"I am excited how Colossal and Viagen's tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets," Tom—who adopted Lua with his now-ex-wife Gisele Bündchen in 2014—added, "while helping to save endangered species."

Indeed, while Colossal's newest endeavor is reinventing what's possible with a family's pet, the company previously made headlines after reintroducing the extinct dire wolf featured in Game of Thrones

"Colossal's innovations in science, technology and conservation made it possible to accomplish something that's never been done before," the company—which is also working to bring back the dodo bird, woolly mammoth and more extinct species—announced in April, "the revival of a species from its longstanding population of zero."

Meanwhile, Viagen has been focused on cloning pets since 2016, including Barbra Streisand's Coton du Tulear Samantha in 2017, as well as Paris Hilton's Chihuahua Diamond Baby in 2022.

After Paris' dog ran away from home, she revealed that she had cloned her pet into twins, named Diamond and Baby, thanks to husband Carter Reum's recommendation.

"I just feel like part of me is missing," she explained in her show Paris in Love. "She was like my sister, my best friend, my sidekick. I'm so happy and grateful that Carter figured out a way to get her back. "

And as for why Barbra—who also opted for twin pups—decided to take the technological leap? No other dog compared to Samantha.

"I was so devastated by the loss of my dear Samantha after 14 years together," she shared in her 2018 New York Times essay, "that I just wanted to keep her with me in some way."

While the Way We Were actress knows her dogs Fanny and Scarlett aren't Samantha, she's grateful for their presence.

"You can clone the look of a dog, but you can't clone the soul," she explained. "Still, every time I look at their faces, I think of my Samantha...and smile."
