Todd Monken just made his most important Browns coaching hire (and it’s not the OC)

The headlines are buzzing about the Browns hiring Travis Switzer as the new offensive coordinator, but don’t be fooled by the title. While Switzer is a vital "right-hand man" for Todd Monken, the hire that actually helps the offence the most took place just hours after Monken took the job.

The secret is out: George Warhop is back in Cleveland.

Monken didn't hesitate to bring Warhop over from Baltimore, and for good reason. In a league where the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots just used elite offensive line play improvement to leap from "worst to first" in their divisions, Monken knows that a high-flying offense is a pipe dream without a brick wall up front.

Warhop isn’t just a familiar face; he is the man Joe Thomas credits for a lot of his success during his Hall of Fame career. The veteran assistant was doing the same job in Cleveland from 2009-to-2013. ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi wrote that Thomas texted him, “he is an excellent coach. Much like Bill Callahan in how he develops young players and maximizes guys’ potential.”

Former NFL center LeCharles Bentley also chimed in on X, “Great hire. Whatever happens with that group won’t be a 'coaching' issue. Players just gotta play.”

Warhop’s resume is a masterclass in trench warfare:

  • The Baltimore Dominance: In 2024, his unit paved the way for the 2nd-most rushing yards in the Super Bowl era.
  • The All-Pro Maker: He has coached a "who's who" of elite blockers, from Joe Thomas and Alex Mack to Laremy Tunsil.

The OC might help design the plays, but Warhop ensures the Browns actually have the time to run them.

Welcome home, coach.
