Tennessee Titans linebacker Dre'Mont Jones enters the season with a clear chip on his shoulder. After two years with the Seattle Seahawks, the manner of his release might not have sat right with him.
Jones begins his seventh NFL season motivated to showcase his value, especially to the Seahawks, who released him in March, in a move to free up about $11.5 million in salary cap space.
On Tuesday, Titans reporter Jim Wyatt shared what the big edge rusher said as he prepares for a new season with a new team.
"I am not old, I am 28," Jones said with a half smile. "It's not like I am 32, heck, 32 isn't old. I'm not 36 or 37. But I definitely want to prove myself, and I want to remind other teams who didn't want me any more that I am still a hell of a player."
Jones' physicality will be an asset for the defense as they aim to increase their sack total in 2025. They had the third-fewest sacks (32) in the NFL last season.
"You do that by being physical as F," Jones said. "Every day, bringing it, striking, taking off, getting to a guy's chest. Let him know who wants to win. That's what I plan to do every day."
Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson will be counting on Jones to deliver.
"I need to be a tone-setter, I need to be a leader," Jones said. "It's what I want to do, and it's what I want to be. I want to be that guy."
In his leadership role, Jones will mentor rookie linebacker Oluwafemi Oladejo. The Titans have high expectations for the 52nd pick of the 2025 NFL draft, and Jones will play a key part in preparing the newcomer for the demands of the NFL stage.
