The Tennessee Titans are 0-5 in the regular season heading into Week 6 against the 2-3 Indianapolis Colts. They desperately need a win this week to stay alive with any hope of making a playoff run.
While those hopes are likely already gone at this point, the Titans are out of time to wait for players to turn their seasons around. But that doesn't make the decision on their $66 million offseason signing any less surprising.
The Titans announced Sunday that $66M cornerback Alontae Taylor is inactive for Week 6. After just five games with the Titans, they've made their big-money offseason acquisition a healthy scratch for Week 6 in a must-win matchup.
Titans make $66M Alontae Taylor a healthy scratch for Week 6
Listed among the Titans' inactives for Week 6, the Titans have ruled out Taylor for what would've been just his sixth game with the team after signing this offseason.
A three-year, $66 million contract for Taylor was not a low price for the Titans to pay. But just five games later, the Titans have more than benched Taylor; they've made him a healthy scratch.
The Titans can now turn to Cordale Flott, Joshua Williams, Jaylon Jones, and Micah Robinson in their cornerback room with Taylor out for Week 6.
Against a shaky Colts wide receiver room, led by Josh Downs and Keenan Allen, and without star tight end Tyler Warren in Week 6, this is a good week to see what these other cornerbacks can do.

The Titans are going one step beyond simply benching Taylor, and looking at what he's done for the Titans this season, it's not a surprising decision.
On 21 targets this season, Taylor has allowed 18 receptions for 159 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions, good for a 114.1 passer rating allowed.
Robert Saleh is shaking up the Titans' cornerback room after just five weeks, hoping that the backups can provide a spark for the Titans' defense.
Taylor is sure to return at some point for the Titans, but this decision doesn't bode well for Taylor's $66 million, three-year contract to work out in any capacity.
