Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals tips-off tonight at 9:30 p.m. between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors. Two teams that have never faced each other in the postseason.
Leading up to this series, Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards led his team to victory in five games over the Los Angeles Lakers. Going into the series, the Lakers were heavily favored to win the series due to having both LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
As Minnesota prepares for their series against the Warriors, Edwards was given some extra motivation from a WWE superstar named Randy Orton. Orton is known for being a "legend killer" in professional wrestling. In the graphic he tagged Edwards in, it's a cartoon drawing of Orton and Edwards and shows Orton handing Edwards a necklace with the words "Legend Killer" encrypted into it.
With Edwards growing up in the 2010's as a teenager, he is aware of who Orton is. He has already proven to be a wrestling fan as he was seen doing a wrestling taunt on the court during a game against the Phoenix Suns just last season. That taunt is from a tag team called "D-Generation X" that also was extremely popular in the 2000-2010's.
After already defeating a legend, future hall-of-famer, all-time great in James, Edwards now has some extra motivation heading into his upcoming series against Stephen Curry and the Warriors. Especially, since Curry is a legend in his own right as well.
Prior to this season, Edwards mentioned he wanted to play the Warriors and advance further into the playoffs. He gets the chance to accomplish both with this series beginning tonight. Perhaps some extra added motivation from someone he'd never expect could help add even more intensity from Edwards in this series.
