Tigers trade target Eugenio Suarez breaks silence on possible reunion

The Detroit Tigers are one of the top teams in baseball, but after a rough stretch, where they lost 12 of 14 games, the needs on the roster became a lot more pressing. One of those needs is at third base, and especially Arizona Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez.

They've been interested in a reunion with Suarez for some time this season, and with the two teams facing each other in Detroit, the Tigers are hoping to land the slugging third baseman before he leaves the city.

In a recent piece from Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, after Suarez had an injury scare against the Tigers when he was hit by a pitch on his hand, which turned up negative X-rays and has Suarez day-to-day, he commented on the Tigers trade rumors, and a potential reunion with Detroit.

"There's a lot of rumors about Detroit," Suarez said. "But I don't know. Like I said, I just think about trying to win games on this side of the clubhouse. Obviously, it's going to be weird because I don't want to face my own team."

The chances of Suarez facing the Diamondbacks in this series are all but zero. After suffering a hand injury, there's not a high chance that Suarez is dealt mid-series and suits up for the Tigers immediately.

He doesn't want to face the Diamondbacks, but with his injury, that concern is unlikely to come to fruition. The Tigers could still swing a deal, and Suarez wouldn't have to face Arizona this season if he did come to Detroit.

Detroit has interest in the Diamondbacks slugger, and Suarez knows a reunion with the team he made his big league debut with is on the table. But between the injury and the plethora of teams interested, it's going to be a tough trade for the Tigers to make.

This season, Suarez is hitting .248 with 95 hits and 36 home runs. He's been one of the best hitters in baseball and was named an All-Star for just the second time in his big league career.

With nearly every contender interested in Suarez in some capacity, the Tigers will have a tough time bringing him back to Detroit. Suarez is aware of the rumors linking him to Detroit, a deal that could reunite him with one of his former teams.
