Tigers sign former Rockies, Marlins 4.67 ERA reliever after Braves stint

The Detroit Tigers have added a veteran arm to their bullpen. 

On Monday, the Tigers signed a right-handed reliever who was recently let go by the Atlanta Braves. 

According to Evan Woodberry of MLive Media Group, the AL Central club agreed to a Major League contract with Tyler Kinley. 

"The Tigers have signed RHP Tyler Kinley to an MLB contract and added him to the active roster. RHP Ty Madden optioned. RHP Ricky Vanasco DFA'd," Woodberry reported on X. 

Kinley, 35, has spent parts of the past two seasons with the Braves. He posted a 4.01 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 42.1 innings with Atlanta before his release.

"As recently as last year, Kinley looked really good. Atlanta acquired him from Colorado, and he posted an ERA of 0.72 after that deal," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. "That was pretty fluky but he struck out 23.4% of batters faced and only gave out walks at a 6.4% pace." 

The Braves are on the hook for most of Kinley's remaining 2026 salary, so the Tigers are taking a chance that he can make an impact. 

Madden threw 33 pitches on Sunday, which may have forced him out of the bullpen mix for a few days.
