The Detroit Tigers have an opportunity to win a World Series this season, but they still have areas on their team that need improvement. One area that the front office could look to bolster is the bullpen.
Over the years, any team that has gone on to win the World Series has been able to count a formidable bullpen. Last season, the Los Angeles Dodgers leaned heavily on their relievers as they often went the bullpen game route.
Detroit might not need to go the bullpen game route, but having reliable arms to come in and shut down the opposing team is required if they want to make any noise in October. On Friday’s “MLB Show,” Bleacher Report’s Steve Perrault sees the Pittsburgh Pirates’ David Bednar landing with the Tigers.
“The Tigers don’t really need to make a trade,” Perrault said. “I know any team, technically, you would say needs to make a trade or needs to do everything they possibly can to improve.
“Tigers are looking great, but this would just be an excellent addition for A.J. Hinch in the back of this bullpen. A guy that would not be afraid to pitch in playoff games, could step up in big moments, close games out for these guys.”

Bednar will be a free agent in 2027, so the Pirates could be looking to sell and get the most out of a trade, considering any team looking to land him will have the veteran reliever for the rest of this season and next year.
So far in 37 games, Bednar has posted a 2.45 ERA while only giving up two home runs and recording 13 saves for Pittsburgh. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers land the 30-year-old or venture elsewhere to bolster their bullpen.
