Tigers predicted to trade for Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez

The Detroit Tigers need a third baseman. It's a simple need, but there aren't a ton of options on the trade market. But, there is one, and it's Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez.

Jim Bowden for The Athletic wrote a piece about the six trades he wants to see happen before the MLB trade deadline. The third trade Bowden mentioned had the Tigers swinging a deal with the Diamondbacks for Suarez. Bowden predicted that Detroit would have to give up Jaden Hamm and Max Anderson, the Tigers' 7th and 21st-ranked prospects.

"The Tigers need to lengthen their lineup by adding another power bat and Suarez," Bowden writes. "who began his career with Detroit, would be the perfect fit."

In 2025, Suarez has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Across his 258 at-bats, the Diamondbacks slugger has 21 home runs and 60 hits to go with 13 doubles, 43 runs scored, 57 RBIs, and 21 walks. While he's struck out 76 times, Suarez still has a solid OPS of .834.

His batting average of .233 is lower than a lot of the Tigers' batters, but his power is a huge reason why the Tigers could use a player like Suarez. Not only would he be a nice addition, but he's a reasonable deal to acquire as well.

Suarez is in the final year of his deal and has a 2025 salary of $15 million. It's a very affordable deal for the Tigers, and they would only pick up part of it as well. With him being a free agent after the season, the Tigers don't have to give up much in Bowden's prediction, just two top 30 prospects, and neither in the top five.

Detroit is in the middle of an incredible season, and adding someone of Saurez's prowess would be a huge addition to the team. His inclusion in the offense is perfect, and not just because he previously played for Detroit.

He fits the team's need at third base and is the power bat they need to contend with the other top teams around the league. Bowden called this a perfect fit, and with all of the context surrounding his abilities, it makes perfect sense why Suarez would be a perfect fit for this team.
