The Detroit Tigers officially announced Tuesday that starting pitcher Jackson Jobe underwent reconstructive elbow surgery on his UCL on Monday.

Otherwise known as Tommy John surgery, this ends Jobe's 2025 campaign and likely puts most if not all of 2026 in jeopardy for the young pitcher.
This was a devastating setback for the Tigers and their young star, who had entered 2025 as the top pitching prospect in baseball. He was slowly coming into form, starting his rookie season with a 4-1 record and 4.22 ERA.
This leaves the Tigers with reigning Cy Yong winner Tarik Skubal at the top of their lineup with Jack Flaherty and Casey Mize behind him. Sawyer Gipson-Long and Keider Montero have also started in spots, seeing mixed results thus far.
Alex Cobb and Reese Olson are also on the roster, but they are both dealing with injuries as well. The Tigers announced that Cobb (left hip inflammation) resumed playing catch earlier this week while Olson (right finger inflammation) completed a bullpen session yesterday.
With so many injuries in the rotation, it would seem likely the Tigers - with their MLB-leading 46-27 record - will need to add another starting pitcher or two before the trade deadline.
Detroit still has one of the top farm systems in baseball, including five players listed in MLB.com's top 100 prospects, all of whom are age 21 or younger. If the Tigers want to make a splash and really go for it all this season, they may need to mortgage a bit of the future to get better right now.
