Tigers make exciting Tarik Skubal rehab announcement

The Detroit Tigers are in the middle of a disastrous season that hasn't gone anything close to what they were hoping for.

They're 25-38 on the season, and in danger of acting as deadline sellers this summer. All eyes are currently on Tarik Skubal right now, and there was some big news revealed on Friday afternoon.

According to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, the Tigers are sending Skubal on a rehab assignment to High-A West Michigan to kick-start his return to the Major Leagues.

Tarik Skubal to begin rehab assignment on Sunday

"Tarik Skubal will make a rehab start Sunday at West Michigan," Stavenhagen reports. "He's pitching in High A rather than Triple A because of weather concerns."

The Tigers are sending Skubal on a rehab assignment for the first time since his surgery to remove loose bodies in his left elbow.

This is a very exciting report from Stavenhagen, as Skubal will take the mound for the West Michigan White Caps on Sunday afternoon.

Skubal will face the Dayton Dragons, the Cincinnati Reds' High-A affiliate, on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. It will be Skubal's first live-game action since coming off surgery.

The Dragons' High-A team will face Skubal in what's surely one of, if not the toughest pitcher these hitters will ever face in their professional baseball careers.

But, for Tigers fans, this is some very exciting news, as it's the first step for Skubal to return to the MLB level. A rehab assignment begins the window for Skubal to return, which means he should be back in the next month or so if all goes well.
