Tigers listed as possible home for power hitter

The Detroit Tigers have one of the best offenses in the American League and have positioned themselves at the top of the pennant. It has been 41 years since Detroit last won its first and only World Series and 13 years since the last time it has made an appearance in the World Series. Finally, the Tigers now have their best chance to win a championship since then.

Now as the trade deadline approaches, the Tigers could certainly be buyers to give themselves as best of a chance to win its second World Series in franchise history.

One player that was named by MLB writer Mark Feinsand with the Tigers as a possible landing spot is three-time All-Star Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves.

“The Braves have a handful of expiring contracts, but given the lack of power hitters expected to be available between now and July 31, Ozuna could bring back the best return as a rental,” Feinsand wrote.

It’s almost a certainty that if the Tigers did trade for Ozuna before the deadline, it would just be a rental rather than a long-term deal. The question would then be: who would Detroit be willing to give up to get Ozuna, who likely would not be a Tiger down the road?

In 68 games played, Ozuna has batted .257 and hit 11 home runs and collected 38 RBIs. While the Tigers are not desperate for more offense, Ozuna’s power would give Detroit offensive help and World Series experience to the roster. Ozuna helped the Braves win the 2021 World Series and was an All-Star for Atlanta last season.
