The Detroit Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak on Sunday night against the Texas Rangers. They still own the best record in Major League Baseball despite their recent skid.
They also still have an 11-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central. However, they will likely be busy at the trade deadline.
Last year, they were sellers at the deadline, but went on an unprecedented surge to capture a Wild Card spot. This year, they will look to buy.
They could use a little help with their bullpen. Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN listed St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley as a top trade candidate and had Detroit as a possible fit.
"Helsley had the fourth-best WAR among relievers last season and is in a contract year now but has been notably worse this season. His stuff and location are similar, but the main difference is that his fastball is getting hit hard -- with one byproduct being his spiking home run rate."

The Tigers have the farm system to pull off a potential deal for Helsley, and the Cardinals will certainly be asking for top prospects. The 31-year-old is the reigning National League Reliever of the Year after saving a franchise record 49 games.
But the Tigers could certainly use a presence like Helsley at the back end of their bullpen. The two-time All-Star hasn't been as dominant this year, but has remained solid.
Helsley is 3-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 34 appearances and has saved 19 games with St. Louis. The Cardinals are likely to sell following a sweep at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Tigers should be all in on improving their roster and trying to win their first World Series title since 1984.
We'll see if they show any interest in Helsley.
