Tigers listed among potential landing spots for Astros 2x All-Star

The Detroit Tigers have had a quiet offseason following an unprecedented second-half surge got them into the postseason. They even took the Cleveland Guardians the full five games in the American League Division Series.

The team has signed Gleyber Torres to fill the hole at second base, but they could use a big splash to establish themselves as the favorites to win the AL Central.

Throughout the offseason, they have been linked to Alex Bregman. CBS Sports' R.J. Anderson listed them as a potential landing spot for the two-time World Series champion.

"The Tigers should feel empowered by last year's playoff run to do something big. I'm not sure they see it the same way. The Tigers recently inked second baseman Gleyber Torres to a one-year deal and, as it stands, they can round out their infield with Colt Keith and Jace Jung at the corners. Admittedly, Comerica isn't the best ballpark fit for Bregman, but I fear this offseason will become a missed opportunity if the Tigers don't take a bigger swing over the coming weeks," Anderson wrote.

Bregman won the first of his two World Series titles with the Houston Astros while Hinch was the manager. Hinch was fired after the Astros were punished for the sign-stealing scandal.

However, the Tigers represent an opportunity for Bregman to reunite with his old skipper. Detroit needs a big piece to set themselves apart from the rest of the AL Central, and Bregman could be their man.

The two-time All-Star slashed .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and 75 RBI during the regular season, and the door has essentially been closed on a reunion with the Astros.

Perhaps if the Tigers are unwilling to give him a megadeal, they could sign him to a shorter-term contract with opt-outs. We'll see what his market looks like as the offseason progresses.
