Tigers' fan-favorite gets major injury update after three-month absence

At this point, it's tough to argue against the Detroit Tigers being the best team in Major League Baseball. Not only do they have the most wins with 43, but the Tigers have done everything right from top to bottom.

Manager A.J. Hinch has done an excellent job, and as a result, the Tigers look like one of the best teams in baseball.

That's even more impressive considering the injuries they've dealt with.

One player still dealing with an injury is Matt Vierling.

Vierling returned for the Tigers on May 23, but shortly after, on May 26, was sent back to the injury list with his rotator cuff injury. He was sidelined for three months with a strained rotator cuff, but he reported soreness, which sent him back to the IL.

While shoulder injuries are never ideal, Vierling seems to be in a good space, and the latest scans reportedly revealed no structural damage, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.

According to Petzold, Vierling stated that this was the best-case scenario, and he was expected to begin his throwing progressions on Sunday.

"Absolutely best-case scenario," said Vierling, who will start his throwing progression Sunday, June 8, at Comerica Park. "I was nervous. Luckily, the news came back — nothing serious."

During the 2024 campaign, Vierling was a big piece to the Tigers’ success.

He finished the season hitting .257 with a 107 OPS+, blasting 16 home runs.

A fan favorite on and off the field, Vierling should be a big boost to Detroit whenever he returns.
