The Detroit Tigers have had a rough final stretch of the season, with their control of the AL Central being threatened. Now, it seems they’ve made a move to try and do some damage control.
According to the Tigers, they’ve designated two-time All-Star and two-time World Series Champion Charlie Morton for assignment.

RHP Tanner Rainey has been selected from Triple-A Toledo. Rainey will wear uniform #32 and be available for today’s game vs. the Atlanta Braves. RHP Charlie Morton has been designated for assignment,” the Tigers posted on X.
The Tigers got Morton at the deadline due to the fact he was soaring, and looked like he could be a good arm at the end of the rotation. The Tigers didn’t get that however, as Morton had a 7.09 ERA with the Tigers in nine starts.

Since Morton probably won’t be picked up with a week left in the season, he finished with a record of 9-11, an ERA of 5.89, 148 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.571.
Hopefully the Tigers made the right decision, and Morton finds another home next season.
