Tigers announcer hilariously roasted by own cameraman during live broadcast

The Tigers' postseason hopes officially ended on Sunday, making the final week of the season all about finishing strong ahead of 2027.

The toughest job might belong to play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti, who has to find a way to fill time at the end of a lost season. Luckily, Benetti has no shortage of history references ready to go at a moment's notice.

After comparing outfielder Riley Greene's OPS to an obscure moment in history, Benetti's own cameraman found a creative way to roast him in one of the funniest broadcast moments of the MLB season.

Discussing Greene's 1.663 OPS when the Tigers are wearing their City Connect uniforms, Benetti found a unique way to put the stat in perspective.

"When your OPS in any category is the same as the year when the Austro-Turkish War started, you're doing well," Benetti said. Seconds later, the cameraman panned to the last four letters of the "SeatGeek" ad on the outfield wall at Comerica Park, not-so-subtly calling Benetti a "geek."

The Tigers broadcaster, who also serves as the play-by-play voice for "Sunday Night Baseball" on NBC, got a good laugh out of the moment.

There were actually several Austro-Turkish Wars, and the one referenced by Benetti lasted only parts of two years, making it even more impressive that he had that knowledge ready to go — no matter what his cameraman says.
