Thunder predicted to deal bench star Isaiah Joe, slew of picks for $94 million forward

The Oklahoma City Thunder are breezing through the NBA Playoffs, having just swept the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. However, they got upset in the second round last year, and if it happens again, they’ll need to make some changes this offseason.

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey has a proposed trade if that were to occur. In it, the Thunder would make a deal for Brooklyn Nets star forward Cameron Johnson. The trade would look like this:

Thunder receive: Cameron Johnson

Nets receive: Isaiah Joe, Ousmane Dieng, 2029 first-rounder, 2028 second-rounder, 2029 second-rounder via Atlanta, 2029 second-rounder via Miami

“And unlike KD (who's pretty malleable himself), Johnson can enter this rotation without costing it any regulars and without taking much usage from stars such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander,” Bailey wrote.

Johnson would indeed fit into the Thunder’s rotation, and especially their starting five. As of now, they are pretty undersized, and have both their seven footers starting to make up for it.

With Johnson’s 6’8 frame, he could move into the four and give the Thunder another shooter on the perimeter. Chet Holmgren would shift to the five, and Isaiah Hartenstein would become his backup, while all the other bench players shift a spot up.

Johnson would also make room for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to go to work, as defenders would either have to choose to guard him, leaving Johnson wide open for a three, and vice versa.

If the Thunder don’t make it to the NBA Finals this year, this trade could solve a lot of problems. Even if they do make it, they should call up Brooklyn just to see what they would want.
