There's a potential solution to Shemar Stewart's contract drama with Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals will report to training camp on Saturday, and rookie edge rusher Shemar Stewart remains unsigned.

Stewart, who was the No.17 overall pick in April's draft by the Bengals, hasn't signed his rookie deal due to Cincinnati's efforts to include language in the deal that would allow them to void future guarantees in his contract.

With both sides unwilling to budge, former NFL agent and CBS Sports' Joel Corry proposes a potential solution to Stewart's contract dispute with the Bengals.

Corry believes Cincinnati should give Stewart a better payment schedule on his signing bonus if they still want to include the language regarding his guarantees in the contract.

"A potential way for the Bengals to get their desired language is to give Stewart a better signing bonus payment schedule than their most recent first-round picks. My understanding is the Bengals haven't expressed an interest in offering anything in return for their preferred language," Corry wrote.

"[Ja'Marr] Chase, who was 2021's fifth overall pick, got 65.74% of his signing bonus upon execution. Doing something along those lines for Stewart might be a fair trade off if the desired language is that important to the Bengals," Corry wrote.

Giving Stewart most of his signing bonus shortly after he signs his rookie deal would be a fair compromise from the Bengals, who are trying to include unprecedented clauses in the Texas A&M product's contract.

However, as Corry wrote, Cincinnati may not be interested in making any sort of trade-offs with Stewart and just wants him to sign his deal with the contract they've constructed.

Changing up Stewart's signing bonus schedule could be the solution that saves the day for the Bengals. However, we'll just have to wait and see if the two parties can come to an agreement.
