EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, March 20 — The Plainfield [NJ] Cardinals upset the Bergen Catholic [Oradell, NJ] Crusaders, 56-55, Thursday to advance to the semifinals of The Throne Tournament.

Plainfield's Micah Gordon was the star of the game w with 23 points, five assists, and six rebounds, and fittingly, he clinched the game with two late free throws. With his Cardinals trailing 55-54, Gordon calmly stepped to the line and sunk the freebies to give Plainfield a one-point lead with 8.8 seconds remaining in the battle between two state champions from the Garden State. The Cardinals got one final stop to seal the deal and move on to the semifinals.

They'll take on the Columbus [Miami, FL] Explorers, a 64-50 winner over the Sunnyslope [Phoenix, AZ] Vikings. Columbus is the defending Sporting News national champion with star Caleb Gaskins leading the way in the win over Sunnyslope with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. EST local Friday.
