There was more to Chappell Roan’s Grammys 2026 red carpet look than meets the eye.
The singer’s makeup artist, Sasha Glasser chatted with Allure Magazine about the chest-baring dress that caused a ruckus at the musical awards show.
Roan’s Mugler look was basically a burgundy chiffon drape that was adhered to her body by metal piercings.
And, while the skin-baring gown made it seem as though she was wearing nothing at all, Glasser reveals that she was actually sporting skin-toned prosthetics on each breast.
“The idea was for her to not be so naked,” the makeup artist explained.
For the job, she turned to brand Out of Kit for prosthetic pasties that were painted to Roan’s exact skin tone.
Due to the paper-thin weight of the pasties, however, Glasser discovered through trial and error that they would have to use power mesh underneath to secure the piercings to prevent them from ripping off.
“It helps when you have good prosthetics, but it’s also a testament to our skills that we’ve worked so long on perfecting,” Glasser told Allure.
She also revealed that the temporary tattoos all over Roan’s chest and back were decided so last minute that she spent the night before the Grammys printing the transfers.
“There are different ways to design tattoos for makeup and companies that make really amazing options, but because we decided on the look the night before, I had to print the designs out at Staples 30 minutes before the store closed,” she added.
The result? A perfect illusion that not only got people talking — to which Roan responded, “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit” — but also showed off the highly skilled team with which the singer works.
