SAN FRANCISCO — Ten years ago, I spoke with Ronnie Lott about Leonard Williams, then a second-year Jets defensive lineman who was drafted in the first round and trying to find his way in the NFL amidst weighty pressures and expectations.
Ten years ago, Williams was dating Lott’s daughter, Hailey. So Lott, one of the greatest defensive backs of his generation who squeezed every ounce of potential from his talent, had taken a special interest in Williams, because he badly wanted to see him get everything out of his amazing, God-given talent.
Ten years later, Lott’s words and his wisdom have proven to be prescient.
And, 10 years later, Williams and Hailey Lott are husband and wife, expecting their first child with Hailey some 36 weeks pregnant and here in San Francisco supporting Williams as he plays in his first Super Bowl — 11 years into his NFL career.
