The Phillies adding Mike Trout would be great, but it seems unlikely

One of the more well-known secrets surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies is that they will be looking to add a right-handed bat at the August 3 trade deadline.

The Phillies have seen little production from their outfield, and their offseason signing, Adolis Garcia, has not performed well overall (.196 batting average and .591 OPS). However, Garcia has gotten off to a good start in June, collecting three hits (one double and a home run) in 10 at-bats.

Despite Garcia's recent success, Phillies right fielders are 23rd in OPS (.625) and slugging percentage (.339). The rest of the outfield hasn't been better, with Phillies left fielders ranking 17th-best in OPS (.693) and their center fielders at 14th in MLB (.662).

The Philadelphia Phillies could be going (Mike) Trout fishing at the trade deadline

All the rumors surrounding the Phillies at the trade deadline have Millville, New Jersey native Mike Trout returning home. However, Trout would need to okay a trade, given his status as a 10-and-5 player and a full no-trade clause.

According to Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly, he doesn't think the 11-time All-Star will be traded to the Phillies; rather, he believes Trout's teammate, Jo Adell, is a likely candidate to land with the Phillies.

"We're inclined to think Trout won't want to be traded, but if he does, the Phillies might become the most likely landing spot given that the Millville, NJ native grew up as a Phillie sports fan," writes Kelly.

"The Phillies could also consider trying to acquire a piece they think could take another step forward and become a star in their organization, like [Jo] Adell or Heliot Ramos [San Francisco Giants]."

Trout would bring more power to the Phillies, mashing 14 home runs to the Phillies' outfield's combined 12. Trout also has a strong ability to get on base, leading Major League Baseball in walks, with 60. This is 16 more than the Phillies outfielders: Garcia (20), Brandon Marsh (10), and Justin Crawford (14) have collectively.

Having the three-time MVP would give the Philles someone to protect Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber has been batting leadoff for the Phillies as of late, but adding Trout would allow him to slide back into the two-hole, where he's been productive (batting .247 with a 1.020 OPS and 21 home runs in 182 at-bats).
