Real fans haven’t forgotten.
Just two short years ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars looked like a formidable playoff contender, taking down the Los Angeles Chargers in a 31-30 nail biter Wild Card game and then almost upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs the next week.
Not much has gone right in the 24 months since.
In 2023, the club went a respectable 9-8 but missed out on the playoffs. Then, last season, everything fell apart. Sitting at 2-7, quarterback Trevor Lawrence fell prey to injuries. Backup Mac Jones finished the season in his place leading the team to a tough-to-swallow 4-13 record.
Yet, let’s not forget that their playoff season wasn’t that long ago.
And, with new pieces in place — namely lottery pick Travis Hunter, free agent signees Jourdan Lewis, Eric Murray, Patrick Mekari, Robert Hainsey, Dyami Brown and recently-announced head coach Liam Coen — the team looks to return to its winning ways of the recent past.
“Becoming the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars is an opportunity of a lifetime, and one that I am going run with to instill a championship culture and winning tradition here in Duval,” Coen said in a statement, via Peter Schrager of the NFL Network. “…we are ready to get to work.”
And, now that this year’s schedule has been released, Duval-based fans have an idea of what the road back to victory looks like.
Big matchups at Everbank Stadium this year include showdowns with perennial powerhouses like the Houston Texans (Sept. 21), AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs (Oct. 6) and Los Angeles Chargers (Nov. 16).
But wait! There’s more!
On Sunday, Oct. 18, the squad is heading overseas to take on the Los Angeles Rams at London’s Wembley Stadium as part of the NFL’s International Series.
