‘The Great North’ Canceled at Fox After Five Seasons

It’s official: Fox is saying goodbye to The Great North.

The network confirmed that the animated comedy won’t return for a sixth season, ending its run just two weeks after wrapping Season 5. The series—executive produced by Bob’s Burgers veterans Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Loren Bouchard—had been a cozy fixture in Fox’s Sunday Animation Domination lineup since 2021.

“We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “It’s difficult to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup.”

The cancellation marks the end of Fox’s 2025 “bubble” shows—a group that also included Rescue HI-Surf, Accused, Alert: Missing Persons Unit and The Cleaning Lady. Among them, Accused remains on hold with potential to return in event form, but the rest have officially been axed.

While Rescue HI-Surf got the chop back in May, Alert, The Cleaning Lady, and The Great North were left waiting until after their most recent seasons concluded. (Alert and The Cleaning Lady were canceled in June.)

For fans of The Great North, the writing was on the (cabin) wall when the show was excluded from Fox’s April mega-deal with 20th TV Animation, which extended The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and American Dad! for four more years.

With American Dad! returning to the Fox fold and renewals for newer series like Krapopolis and Grimsburg, the network’s animated plate was getting pretty full. Something had to give—and sadly, that something was The Great North.

Created by the Molyneux sisters and Regular Show alum Minty Lewis, the series followed the Tobin family’s Alaskan adventures. Single dad Beef (Nick Offerman) tried to keep his quirky crew close—especially daughter Judy (Jenny Slate), whose artistic dreams took her from the fishing boat to the local mall.

Rounding out the family were Wolf (Will Forte) and his wife Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), middle brother Ham (Paul Rust), and 10-year-old philosopher Moon (Aparna Nancherla). Judy’s mother was out of the picture, but she still found guidance from her boss Alyson (Megan Mullally) and her celestial confidante, Alanis Morissette (voicing herself, naturally).

Despite flying under the radar, The Great North carved out a loyal fan base and became Fox’s first successful new animated series since Bob’s Burgers. After five seasons of Northern charm and family weirdness, it’s earned a well-deserved spot in the Animation Domination hall of fame.
