There aren’t perfect teams, certainly at least not until those superteam Dodgers get much, much healthier.
It’s no surprise that imperfections in the lower 29 clubs are surfacing. While it’s almost surely too early for any significant trades, worries don’t wait for the calendar.
Here are contending teams and their obvious needs:
1. Cubs
Their offense is special (they lead in almost every significant category despite playing 20 of 26 games against the powerhouse Dodgers, Padres and Diamondbacks) and their rotation is still pretty solid even with Justin Steele done for the season. But that relief corps … oy. “They better get their bullpen straightened out,” warns a rival scout of the group with a 5.17 ERA. Another scout suggests one more starter might be nice, too.
