The Giants could target this Mariners breakout candidate to insure Luis Arraez

The San Francisco Giants were kept busy over the offseason. After hovering around .500 for the last four seasons, the club is looking to break through in 2026.

While they were not involved in the biggest headlines over the winter months, they did enough to remain postseason contenders. Adding onto the Rafael Devers trade from last season, they went out and acquired OF Harrison Bader, IF Luis Arraez, and a handful of both starting pitchers and bullpen arms.

Add that to Willy Adames and Bryce Eldridge's ceilings, and San Francisco should be a fun team to watch. However, that does not mean they still cannot get better before Opening Day.

The Giants could target this Mariners breakout candidate to insure Luis Arraez

Luis Arraez is set to take on the majority of the second base duties this season in San Francisco. He has great bat-to-ball skills, but his glove is the thing that holds him back.

With the Giants playing in the same division as the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, they need all the help they can get. And trading for a defensive late-inning replacement could be something that would help San Francisco this season.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer has the perfect player for the Giants to consider, and that is Seattle Mariners 2B Ryan Bliss.

"The thinking here is that the Giants need a backup plan at second base. They think Luis Arraez will be fine out there, but he hasn't been an everyday second baseman since 2023. And even when he was, he was famously bad at it. To end this, Bliss would have more daylight to playing time in San Francisco than he does in Seattle. And in his speed, he would also bring a tool that the Giants badly need to keep up with the rest of MLB. They stole an NL-low 68 bases in 2025."

On top of being a late-inning replacement, he gives San Francisco the speed they desperately need. All in all, while he may not start every game, he could be a huge piece of San Francisco's success if a trade came to fruition.
