There's no reason for an Elf sequel. The original movie, which starred Will Ferrell as a human raised by elves who embarks on a journey to meet his birth father, played by James Caan, after discovering he's on Santa's naughty list, has become a classic and holiday must-watch. There's really no need to continue the story. But if U2's the Edge happened to write a sequel, as actor and comedian Andy Richter has revealed. It's such an incredibly random piece of lore that now demands more answers.

On The Daily Beast's Obsessed podcast, Richter, who had a small role in Elf and co-wrote the book Elf Unwrapped: Behind The Scenes Of A Modern Christmas Classic, released last week, told host Matt Wilstein that Canadian film producer Shawna Robertson had been approached about a sequel written by the Edge. Apparently, the musician wanted to discuss the project with her. Richter didn't reveal what the story was about, but said it was reportedly fully written. There's no clear explanation for why it never came to fruition, other than that things simply didn't work out.
