The Boston Red Sox clearly have a type.
In the 2025 MLB Draft, they can't stop picking tall pitchers from the SEC.
Of their first eight picks, six are at least 6-foot-2 and hail from mounds of the Southeastern Conference.
Those six:
- Kyson Witherspoon, Oklahoma (6-2)
- Marcus Phillips, Tennessee (6-4)
- Anthony Eyanson, LSU (6-2)
- Christian Foutch, Arkansas (6-3)
- Leighton Finley, Georgia (6-5)
- Myles Patton, Texas A&M (6-3)

In their top-eight picks, the two guys that didn't fit the bill were shortstops. They drafted Henry Godbout from Virginia and Mason White from Arizona.
Otherwise, it's pretty clear the Red Sox wanted sturdy, projectable pitchers from the top level of college baseball.
If even a few of those picks pan out, it'll look like a great strategy for Boston.
