The Bills wanted the Kansas City Chiefs, now they have to finally vanquish the demon

Ever since Josh Allen rumbled for a game-clinching touchdown on 4th-and-2 to put the Chiefs' dreams of an undefeated season to rest, it felt like these two teams were on a collision course to dance in the middle of the dance floor once more, and that's exactly what happened.

Bills-Chiefs IV. Patrick Mahomes. Josh Allen. The NFL's two best quarterbacks playing on the game's biggest stage with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. 

Bills fans know all to well that we've seen this exact movie three times now, and all have had the same ending. An AFC Championship Game blowout, 13 seconds, and wide right part II. Enough heartache to last lifetimes packed into a five-year span.

Even so, this is the game the Bills wanted. It's the matchup they have built their team specifically for - they are built strictly to beat the Chiefs. Not the Ravens, whom they just defeated in the divisional round. Not anyone in the NFC who, frankly, they are better than. They assembled this roster with the sole focus of getting over the perpetual road block in their way to finally get back to the Super Bowl. So much so that they built their 2024 roster and established an identity almost identical to that of Kansas City when they traded Tyreek Hill.

Buffalo went from a balls to the wall, live or die by the cannon ball big play and transformed into an efficient, heavier-run team that knew it could still go deep, but didn't make it their entire philosophy. They dipped into the well of Josh Allen being Josh Allen rather than drinking it dry week in and week out.

This game, while already having high stakes, is about far more for Buffalo than winning. It's about exorcising a demon that has haunted them and been their perpetual poltergeist in the biggest moments. Getting to the Super Bowl in any way, shape, or form would have been sweet enough for the Bills and their fans, but everyone knew getting through the Chiefs would be part of the journey. They'll be faced with plenty of doubt and questions that will be asked all week on if they can finally do it. All of which is fair. But this is a Bills team that has spent all season proving people wrong - why not do it one more time? Because there is nowhere that the Bills would rather be than right here, right now.
