A major topic of conversation in recent times was regarding AEW's future amidst Netflix's potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. A wrestling veteran has just given their take on the situation.
With WWE being in partnership with Netflix, this has led many to speculate regarding the Jacksonville-based promotion's future. Many have wondered how they will continue to operate with this arrangement, or if this will become a major disadvantage for Tony Khan and his company.
During a recent edition of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff discussed the situation. He mentioned that for now, nothing would happen. Tony Khan recently highlighted how they still had a few years left in their contract with WBD. Bischoff debunked rumors of Netflix coming in to take over the promotion.
"In the present, to the end of the existing term of AEW's contract, nothing's going to...What would happen to AEW? Nothing..."That scenario that we just talked about? Netflix coming in and operating the whole thing? That's fantasy booking; that's never going to happen," he added. "What's likely going to happen, one way or the other, is if, regardless of the scenarios, Warner Bros. Discovery is going to get sold. It's going to get broken up."However, in the long run, Bischoff wondered whether AEW had a plan. In the end, WBD may cease to exist due to the merger, and they'll need to know where they'll end up if this hends up happening.
"Everything is going to hit 'stop' or 'pause.' What does that do to AEW? Now they're going into the very end of their contract with their existing partner, not having any kind of serious conversation," he speculated, noting AEW will need to keep a "healthy bottom line" to keep up with whatever occurs post-sale. They don't know where they're going to end up." [H/T WrestlingInc.]Eric Bischoff believes a popular AEW star will go to WWE
There has been speculation that Chris Jericho could head to WWE after the end of his current contract. During an episode of his podcast earlier this month, Eric Bischoff believed this was highly possible. He noticed the small nods and hints that Jericho was making and believed that he had a plan.
"He's a very smart guy and he plans ahead. He thinks ahead... If I had to bet money, I would bet he's going to end up in WWE. If I had to bet, and somebody would really have a reason to force me because I wouldn't want to take that bet, but if I had to, that's where I'm putting my bet.... I don't know what the plan is, but Chris has got a plan," Bischoff said. "Now I'm seeing real subtle little nods to WWE. Just enough to get social media to pay attention, not overt." All Elite Wrestling has been on a great run in 2025, and while there remain a lot of unknowns regarding their future, there is also a possibility for an even better 2026.
