The Texas Longhorns are still alive in their bid for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
It’s not been pretty, but the Longhorns are still hanging around, and can get into the dance with wins over Georgia, Arkansas, and Texas A&M to close out the campaign. It’s a tall task, but don’t forget that Hook’em was ranked No. 1 in the country in the preseason poll.
Those days feel like ages ago, though.
The Bulldogs are 6.5-point favorites at home on Saturday night.
Texas vs. Georgia odds, prediction
The Longhorns were expected to be one of the juggernauts of the college football landscape in 2025 because of their offense. More specifically, because of Arch Manning.
The blueblood quarterback was expected to be one of, if not the best, players in the sport, and entered the campaign as the favorite to win the Heisman at some sportsbooks. It’s clear now that everybody got carried away with the hype, and Manning has not taken the Longhorns to new heights.
In fact, you can argue that Texas has been closer to ordinary than great on offense.
According to SP+, the Longhorns boast the 44th-best offense in the country, putting them in the same tier as UConn, Kansas State, and James Madison. Texas is better than those teams, of course, but it paints a pretty accurate picture of how underwhelming this Manning-led attack has been.

The defense has been a different story.
The Longhorns boast an elite defense, ranking seventh in the nation, per SP+, and would likely be a .500 football team if they were good, not great, without the ball.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton in action. Getty ImagesGeorgia, meanwhile, is a balanced team. They’re not among the elites on either side of the ball, but the Bulldogs are in the next tier in both facets.
The most encouraging sign for the Bulldogs is that quarterback Gunner Stockton has emerged as a bona fide Heisman contender down the stretch. Stockton’s numbers are terrific, but he’s also come up huge in clutch moments against Tennessee, Florida, and Ole Miss.
Texas comes into this game as the more desperate team, but there’s a reason for that. They’ve just not been that good. In fact, if a couple of overtime games against Kentucky and Mississippi State, or a three-point win over Vanderbilt, go the other way, we could be talking about one of the most disappointing teams in the country.
Georgia should have enough to end all hope for the Longhorns on Saturday.
