Texas Tech's chances at repeating as Big 12 champions and College Football Playoff contenders took a hit on Saturday. Despite entering its road trip at 4-2 Cincinnati as 10.5-point favorites, the Red Raiders fell 37-24, as Texas Tech's offense struggled on offense all day long.

Texas Tech failed to score a touchdown until the third quarter, and had to settle for field goals the rest of the way. Meanwhile, Texas Tech's defense gave up 24 points in the first half, and trailed 24-6 at halftime. The Bearcat defense held Will Hammond and Tech to finish 3-of-15 on third down, and the Red Raiders also had 13 penalties for 85 yards.

While the loss is Texas Tech's first of the season, losing to an unranked Bearcat team will hurt the Red Raiders' CFP resumé. Let's take a look at where things stand with Tech the rest of the season to see if they can make a second straight CFP trip a reality.

Texas Tech remaining schedule

Here's a look at Texas Tech's remaining schedule:

DateOpponent
Oct. 31Vs. No. 25 Arizona
Nov. 7 Vs. WVU
Nov. 21@ Baylor
Nov. 26Vs. TCU

The good news is that as of right now, there's just one ranked game remaining on Texas Tech's schedule, in No. 25 Arizona at home next week. Two out of five of Texas Tech's remaining conference opponents in WVU and TCU are below-.500 in the Big 12.

The Oklahoma State game looks like the most challenging test for Texas Tech, as the Cowboys are 4-2 on the season with a signature upset win over Oregon earlier this season.

Texas Tech CFP outlook

If Texas Tech wins out, the Red Raiders will likely be fine for a CFP bid. Depending on what happens to BYU and Utah in front of Texas Tech, a trip to the Big 12 title game could also be a possibility. But things get dicey if Texas Tech drops another game, especially to an unranked team.

Utah and BYU should stay as hot as they have been, and the Cougars have a signature win over Notre Dame. While there's no telling what things will look like at the end of the season, it's unclear if the CFP selection committee will put a two-loss Texas Tech in to give the Big 12 three teams. With so many teams in play inside the Big Ten and SEC, the 12 spots will fill up quick as the season progresses.

Texas Tech CFP odds

Per DraftKings, Texas Tech has +290 odds to make it into the CFP. They even have slightly worse odds than the Florida Gators (+280).
