It’s been a wild 24-hours in the Brendan Sorsby saga at Texas Tech. Sorsby and his representation have decided to file a lawsuit against the NCAA to expedite their decision on whether or not he is eligible to play.

Furthermore, Texas Tech has officially deemed Sorsby ineligible with the intention of filing for reinstatement as well.

“After finalizing an agreed-upon stipulation of facts between Texas Tech University, the NCAA and Brendan Sorsby, the University has declared Sorsby ineligible for competition. Texas Tech intends to quickly initiate the reinstatement process—Texas Tech’s primary focus remains supporting Sorsby’s health and well-being.”

Digging a deeper hole

The case against Sorsby got even darker after a statement was released from his affidavit stating that he wanted to have a “real stake” in the games and form a deeper connection with his teammates.

"I rationalized placing those bets as a way to feel more connected to the team, to root for my friends, and to feel like I had a real 'stake' in the games that I otherwise was not involved in.”

Per Brendan Sorsby's representation:

"He rationalized these bets as a way to feel more connected to the team, rooting for his friends and feeling he had a real "stake" in games despite being otherwise uninvolved."
