Texans wide receivers surprisingly ranked in top 10 despite departure of elite talent

The Houston Texans turned things around as soon as they drafted C.J. Stroud. In his first two seasons, he led the Texans to consecutive AFC South titles and playoff wins in each year. However, last season felt like a bit of a let down, as they were supposed to take the next step as potential Super Bowl contenders. Instead, a load of injuries at wide receiver combined with the offensive line struggling, Houston remained stagnant.

This offseason, Stefon Diggs left for the New England Patriots. However, despite Diggs leaving, as well as Tank Dell being injured and out for an unknown period of time, the Texans were still ranked as the No. 10 unit of pass-catchers by PFF.

"Nico Collins leads this group after earning his second straight elite PFF receiving grade (92.3)," Trevor Sikkema writes. "Tight end Dalton Schultz is a top-15 tight end in PFF's pre-season rankings and has five straight years of 500-plus receiving yards. Running back Joe Mixon has also consistently been solid as a receiver, logging four straight years with 300-plus receiving yards. The reason the Texans place No. 10 is their expected reliance on newcomers Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel and Christian Kirk for big-time production. The hope is that Tank Dell can get back in the lineup sooner rather than later after suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2024."

Dell will be out indefinitely due to the gruesome injury he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs in December. Higgins and Noel are both unknown commodities, though. Putting Houston this high feels like Nico Collins doing a lot of heavy lifting.
