Texans owner makes defiant statement on C.J. Stroud's future

1 hour ago 3

The long-term future of Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has been a big topic of discussion this offseason, as the playoff loss left a lasting impression on the NFL media.

With Stroud again having a down season that ended with the playoff loss and four first-half interceptions, some think the franchise should move on from the young quarterback.

But the franchise exercised Stroud's fifth-year option, meaning they have two full seasons of evaluations before they have to commit long-term to C.J.

However, if fans were thinking that the Texans might be of the thought that Stroud isn't their long-term guy at the position, well, owner Cal McNair just ended that.

"Well, as you know, we'll leave that up with (general manager) Nick (Caserio), and those communications are behind the scenes," McNair said via KPRC2. "But yeah, we're fully committed to C.J. I think you saw we extended … we exercised his fifth-year option. So, we'll see how it all works out."

Should Texans extend Stroud?

It depends on who you ask.

Some think yes, but at a discounted rate, and not offer a contract that is top-of-the-market. Others think the franchise should wait and see what C.J. produces on the field over the next two seasons before making a decision.

So, it feels like fans and media are split on what the Texans should do with Stroud.

He had a good rookie season, and fans thought he was going to be the next star, but in the two seasons since, Stroud has stumbled.

What we get from him in 2026 could determine what the franchise does with him long-term.
