Texans named top landing spot for coveted $41 million RB amid Joe Mixon uncertainty

The Houston Texans have a major question mark at the running back position going into the 2026 offseason.

After Joe Mixon missed the entire 2025 campaign with what is still a mysterious foot injury, his future with the team is now up in the air, which makes him an obvious cut candidate.

If Mixon gets the boot, the Texans will be looking at a running backs room headed by Woody Marks and Jawhar Jordan. In that scenario, Houston will need a veteran running back to add to the room.

Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron has a fun suggestion to fill that role.

He named the Texans as the best landing spot for electric New York Jets running back, Breece Hall, who is getting a four-year, $41 million free-agent contract projection from Spotrac.

"Since entering the NFL in 2022, the 24-year-old back has earned an 82.2 PFF rushing grade on gap runs while averaging the fourth-most yards per attempt (4.7) among qualifying backs," he stated. "He’s also undoubtedly a threat to break away on any carry, with his 47 totes of 15 or more yards ranking eighth over that span."

Hall is coming off his second-most most productive seasons as a pro, which is made more impressive by the fact that the Jets absolutely stunk around him offensively.

Hall ripped off a career-best 1,065 rushing yards, and his 1,415 yards from was the second-highest mark of his career.

A true do-it-all back who is capable of hitting home runs from anywhere on the field is just what the Texans need to take some pressure off C.J. Stroud and shore up their suspect running backs room.

The problem with this suggestion is the Jets may never allow Hall to make it to free agency, as New York could very well utilize the franchise tag and then trade the former second-round pick if he doesn't want to return.

That would obviously add another layer onto any team's pursuit of Hall, but with the kind of situation the Texans are facing at running back, we still think Houston should be aggressive in trying to acquire him via trade.

Houston is so close to being a true Super Bowl contender. Now, general manager Nick Caserio has to find those last few moves to put his team over the top.

Hall would be one of those moves.
