The Houston Texans have had success in the first two years of the C.J. Stroud era. The former Ohio State star threw for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions in his rookie season.
Unfortunately, Stroud took a step back in 2024, throwing for 3,727 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in a bit of a surprising season.
Still, there is plenty of hope for Stroud and the Texans. After San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy signed a new five-year, $265 million contract, some have been wondering how much Stroud will get.
Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon dropped a prediction, and he has Stroud getting a five-year, $300 million deal with $240 million guaranteed.
"Although Stroud struggled quite a bit as a sophomore, even a soft rebound in his third year should be enough to earn an extension that not only exceeds Purdy’s deal but potentially even makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history," writes Gagnon.
"Stroud was THAT good as a rookie, and nothing indicates the Texans don’t plan to build around him for years to come. Scheme and protection issues and injuries were big factors in 2024, and the team has at least made significant changes this offseason."
That would be a massive payday for Stroud, and that would put him at an average annual value of $60 million per season. But Houston keeping Stroud happy for the long term would be a huge boost for an up-and-coming AFC team.
