The draft day trades have started early.
The Texans and Browns swapped a handful of draft picks in the later rounds of this year’s draft, taking place over the next few days in Green Bay.
The Texans acquired the 179th overall pick, the 216th overall pick – both sixth-rounders – and the 255th overall pick (seventh round) in this year’s draft from the Browns in exchange for the 166th overall pick (fifth round) in this year’s draft and a fifth-round pick in 2027.
The maneuvers could be the opening salvo for a Texans team reportedly aggressively working to grab one of the top offensive linemen in the draft.
The Ringer’s Todd McShay had reported that he heard Houston had been attempting to move up in the first round, specifically naming Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr. and North Dakota State’s Grey Zabel as two possible targets.
The idea would be to help give Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud better protection for the 2025 season after being sacked the second most in the NFL last year.
The Browns will have plenty of eyes on them picking at No. 2 overall this year with Cleveland potentially picking Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter with the selection.
