(Bloomberg) — Tesla Inc.’s shipments from its Shanghai factory resumed their decline, adding weight to expectations that the Elon Musk-led automaker faces a challenging final quarter for global sales.

The US electric vehicle giant’s shipments totaled 61,497 units in October, down almost 10% from a year earlier, according to preliminary data released by China’s Passenger Car Association on Tuesday. The figures don’t specify the split between exports and domestic sales, but the majority of the vehicles will go to customers in China.

Tesla’s momentum is fading globally as demand in Europe languishes and the carmaker struggles with an uncertain outlook in the US following the end of tax credits that helped push sales to a record in the third quarter.

The firm recently introduced new versions of its top-selling models priced at under $40,000 in an effort to boost demand. But they offer less battery range and are stripped of features including ambient interior lighting and a second-row screen.

Chinese carmakers had a mixed October. Some like Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co. and Geely Auto hit new monthly sales records. Meanwhile, domestic heavyweight BYD Co. posted another drop in sales that cemented its position as No. 2 in the Chinese market for a second month.

Tesla is on course to chalk up another annual decline in global sales. The carmaker is forecast to sell 1.64 million vehicles, including 445,111 units in the fourth quarter, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
