Cam Newton’s top 10 QB list that he released last week caused quite a stir, mainly because of who wasn’t on it.
Newton left off former Alabama quarterback and current Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts completely off the list.
Newton tried to justify his comments by saying that the only reason Hurts was good was because of the talent surrounding him.
“It’s hard for me to grade Jalen Hurts with the talent that he has around him. Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback. But if we’re talking about what they bring to the table holistically, it’s hard to judge what Jalen Hurts can do when you’re throwing to a guy like A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith. You have tight end skill sets. You have a dominant defense, the best running back in the game.”
Newton also said that Hurts doesn’t have to play well for the Eagles to win, but one person who wasn’t having any of the Hurts slander was Terrell Owens.
The former Eagles wide receiver called out Newton on his Instagram account for his snubbing of the Eagles quarterback off his list.
“You would be judging him if he had all of that and wasn’t playing well. This is a Skip Bayless type of statement with dreads! Don’t be mad at Jalen because he’s making great decisions, maybe had you made the decision to jump on that ball?! Just maybe?! Y’all will say anything to go viral. This isn’t it @cam!”
Newton’s career took a hit after the Carolina Panthers lost in Super Bowl 50 to the Denver Broncos during his MVP season. The thing that most remember is him not trying to jump on a fumble during the game, which TO was referring to.
Newton’s reputation as a selfless player was ruined from that point on, and his reported behavior in New England afterwards didn’t help him either. Hurts has already done more in his career than Newton, and that is winning a Super Bowl.
