A 14-year-old boy was was shot in the back and killed in a possible botched scooter robbery in Queens Monday afternoon, police and sources said.
The teen was shot outside of 51-24 Beach Channel Drive in Edgemere around 3:40 p.m., the NYPD said.
He was rushed by EMS to Long Island Jewish Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.
Local Rhea Lowe said violence happens in the neighborhood “almost everyday,” but that today’s shooting particularly worries her.
“It’s directly across the street from a school, there’s too many young people around. That’s dangerous,” Lowe said.
The trigger-happy attacker was last seen heading east on a two-wheeler on Beach 51st Street, wearing a black sweater and white shorts, cops said.
Law enforcement sources said the suspect may have opened fire while stealing a scooter.
There were no arrests by Monday night.
